北京時間7月5日 ，欧足欧洲據《馬卡報》援引《TNT體育》的联南联酝報道稱，歐足聯和南美足聯正在醞釀一項新的美足國際超級杯，該賽事的酿新參賽球隊分別為歐洲杯冠軍和美洲杯冠軍 。
由於聯合會杯已經被改製後的赛事世俱杯取代 ，所以才有了這項國際超級杯的杯美計劃 。據悉，洲杯該計劃就是冠军為了部分替代已經取消的聯合會杯 ，而國際足聯本身也想在世界杯的交锋前一年 ，引入一項更具有吸引力 ，欧足欧洲但是联南联酝賽程上又要更短的賽事 。
《TNT體育》表示 ，美足歐足聯主席切費林和南美足聯主席多明戈斯 ，酿新已經開始在各自足聯的赛事內部盡力推動這一方案 ，這項賽事有可能會邀請兩大杯賽的杯美決賽球隊參加，但更可能的是隻有冠軍球隊參加 。
而鑒於歐洲杯和美洲杯都在世界杯的兩年前進行，因此國際超級杯在世界杯的前一年進行 ，從理論上來講是站得住的 ，因為那個時候 ，歐洲杯和美洲杯的冠軍都分別有了歸屬 。目前 ，國際超級杯的第一屆賽事 ，考慮在2025年籌辦 。
