北京時間6月26日22點 ，老扬领军联城2021賽季亞洲冠軍聯賽I組小組賽首輪 ，国安北京國安隊與菲律賓聯城隊的青年比賽將在烏茲別克斯坦塔什幹的棉農體育場進行。在上海海港止步資格賽階段，军战廣州隊首次在亞冠小組賽首輪輸球後；由揚科維奇領軍的学习國安青年軍 ，首戰麵對此前無亞冠正賽經曆的赢球聯城隊 ，在相互“學習”之餘 ，老扬领军联城能否在結果上帶來驚喜呢？国安
北京國安是以上賽季中場季軍球隊身份第10次出征亞冠聯賽，不過由於疫情 、青年國家隊以及中超等多項因素都是军战未知 ，因此國安不得不派出以U21梯隊為班底的学习混編球隊出戰 。球隊一共上報了24名球員，赢球基本由一線隊年輕球員+U21球員組成 ，老扬领军联城不過出征人數隻有21人 。国安此次 ，青年球隊是由甲A名宿揚科維奇帶隊出征 。
這支青年軍是在剛剛參加完國內U21聯賽後，於6月18日出征烏茲別克斯坦的 。由於起飛出現延誤 ，因此到達時間比最初預計還晚了近4小時。在U21聯賽中 ，雖然北京國安U21隊2勝3平不敗，但沒能晉級到第二階段 ，不過隊中的陳彥樸 、冷季軒各打進3球 ，並列隊內最佳射手。在亞冠賽場 ，球隊同樣需要這兩位20歲的年輕人 。
在出征前 ，主教練揚科維奇在接受媒體采訪時表示 ：在全球疫情反複的情況下 ，亞冠給了這支國安年輕的隊伍一個很好的機會 ，可以讓年輕球員見識一下最高級別的比賽 ，對於這些球員加深對足球的理解和領悟是有幫助的，看到高水平比賽和實際參加 ，感覺還是不太一樣的 ，因此，能夠獲得這樣的比賽機會 ，對於年輕球員來說，非常有意義 。
首戰對手是上賽季菲律賓國內聯賽的冠軍隊聯城隊 ，這支隊伍在5月31日才剛剛任命英格蘭人傑森-懷斯為新任主帥 ，傑森-懷斯是前泰國主教練彼得-懷斯的兒子 。聯城隊與北京國安隊的比賽 ，將是菲律賓俱樂部在亞冠聯賽曆史上踢得首場正賽階段比賽，當然這與亞冠擴軍有一定的關係 。
聯城隊隊中雖然有像鄭多煊這樣的韓國外援 ，但更倚重的還是“歸化”球員 ，譬如出生於西班牙 、但現在是以菲律賓球員身份出戰的馬拉尼翁 。此前聯城隊在踢亞足聯杯的賽事時 ，馬拉尼翁進球不少 。此次出戰亞冠 ，馬拉尼翁還很是謙虛，“我們同組的對手與我們處在不同的水準 ，無論是身體還是技術都要比我們更強大 ，我們隻是希望享受每一場比賽 ，並向每個對手學習。”（卓奧友）
