廣州城將於12月13日18時迎來中超聯賽第二階段首場比賽，广州广州主場迎戰長春亞泰 ，城董11日球隊進駐賽區 。事长俱樂部董事長黃盛華在接受羊城晚報記者采訪時表示 ，不会并唐第二階段球隊的队合目標是在前八的基礎上盡量將名次提升至前六 。雖然多名核心球員離隊或遭遇傷病 ，淼第他表示球隊目前人腳還算充足，阶段足以應付剩下的复出八場比賽 。
第一階段比賽在8月結束後 ，广州广州廣州城隻與成都蓉城踢了一場足協杯正式比賽 。城董也正是事长那場比賽，廣州城被淘汰之餘 ，不会并唐還付出了隊長葉楚貴左膝關節前交叉韌帶撕裂的队合代價。賽後 ，淼第葉楚貴啟程前往德國接受手術 ，阶段康複時間至少8個月 ，這也意味著這名廣州城鋒線上的“關鍵先生”無緣本賽季餘下比賽 。
為了保持競技狀態 ，廣州城近期都在基地進行訓練 ，但不斷有球員傷病的消息傳出 。陳誌釗在一場封閉熱身賽中右手第三掌骨骨折；門將周煜辰也在一次日常訓練中右膝前交叉韌帶斷裂並伴隨內側半月板後角撕裂 ，不得不接受韌帶重建手術 。
據黃盛華透露 ，近期隊內球員傷病恢複情況良好 ，陳誌釗9日已歸隊，有機會在第二階段登場亮相 。第一階段因傷錯過國足12強賽的邊路大將唐淼 ，也有望在第二階段最後兩場比賽中上陣 。不過傷情一直反複的曾超和常飛亞則宣告賽季報銷。
此外 ，第二階段廣州城隻有兩名外援可用 ，吉列爾梅因為簽證問題無法歸隊；登貝萊則是主動申請不參加第二階段比賽 。巴西中鋒蒂亞戈和哥倫比亞前鋒卡爾多納狀態還算不錯，在前幾天和深圳隊的比賽中 ，兩人幫助球隊以4比0大勝 。
雖然多名主力球員將缺席第二階段比賽 ，黃盛華認為，目前球隊還有二十三、四名球員可用 ，人腳還算充足 ，第二階段會給新人更多機會。10月在足協杯比賽中 ，2003年出生和2005年出生的溫永俊和蘇宇亮同城亮相 ，他們也是球隊重點培養的年輕球員 。
主帥範加斯特年初和俱樂部簽訂了一份年薪90萬歐元的一年合約 ，他會帶隊打完本賽季的比賽 ，由於合作愉快 ，雙方也有續約的意願 ，但下一步還要根據俱樂部的股改情況而定 。
此外 ，黃盛華否認了廣州城和廣州隊合並的傳言 。中超各俱樂部目前普遍存在欠薪的情況 ，廣州城也在9月暫停了薪金的發放，但球隊訓練仍正常進行 。黃盛華表示俱樂部不會賴賬，接下來會補足球員的薪酬 ，六七名主力球員也有望續約 。
