北京時間7月4日 ，范志國足前隊長範誌毅近日對於國足12強賽的毅国首場比賽進行了預測 ，他認為國足可能1-2輸給澳大利亞 ，足首战或但是范志這並不是一件壞事 。
世預賽12強賽國足首場比賽將在當地時間9月2日開打 ，毅国國足客場挑戰澳大利亞的足首战或比賽 。麵對強敵，范志範誌毅預測說 ：“第一場比賽對於中國隊來說很困難，毅国可能會1-2輸掉這場比賽。足首战或從我自己內心來說 ，范志輸掉一場比賽不是毅国壞事 ，尤其是足首战或第一場比賽 。從情緒上 、范志思想上 ，毅国第一場比賽兩支球隊可能都準備得更好 ，足首战或但足球比賽就是這樣 ，每場比賽都是硬仗 。”
目前中國男足的平均年齡為30.3歲，在12強賽的各支球隊中屬於年齡偏大的一支 。但是在範誌毅看來，過了30歲並不意味著球員們的狀態下滑得很厲害 ：“30歲是最佳年齡 ，我去國外踢球時已經28歲 、將近29歲了 。現在整個足球運動 ，包括科學的進步 ，讓運動員退役的年齡越來越延後 。老球員在場上的經驗 ，隨著年齡的增長 ，都在慢慢提升 。某種程度上 ，球員年齡增長後在場上的成熟度 ，會好過那些年輕球員。”
2013年 ，卡馬喬率領國足在熱身賽中主場1-5慘敗泰國 。賽後 ，範誌毅在接受采訪時表示 ：“中國足球現在什麽水平 ？再下去要輸越南了 ，泰國輸完輸越南 ，再輸緬甸 ，接下來沒人輸了 。”時隔8年再談越南足球 ，範誌毅表示 ：“國足12強賽客場踢越南的時候 ，這我得去 ，我得到胡誌明或者河內去，我自己買飛機票飛過去 ，為中國隊加油，我看越南人到底能把我怎麽樣 。越南人你們要搞清楚 ，首先我是看著你們進步的，但是你真要想超過中國隊 ，我覺得你還需要時間 ！”
