記者蔡宗霖報道 足協杯16強決賽 ，13日在四大賽區拉開戰幕 ，队线队以年輕球員為班底出戰的集结廣州隊 ，最終0比1不敵中乙球隊青島青春島 ，中超連續第二年止步於足協杯正賽首輪 。复赛
完成了足協杯的何种号比賽任務後 ，廣州隊下一次再公開亮相 ，面貌將是仍问年底的中超第二階段比賽 ，那時這支球隊會以什麽姿態示人 ，广州目前看來仍是队线队一個問號 。
10月11日一早，集结廣州隊搭乘球隊大巴來到白雲機場 ，中超坐上飛往濟南的复赛航班，開啟他們本賽季的何种号足協杯征程 ，但由於8名隊員入選國家隊，面貌其餘一線隊成員也未有集結 ，飛機上隻有15名名單中的年輕球員 ，以及代理主帥劉智宇率領的教練團隊 。
賽前發布會上 ，劉智宇說 ：“感謝賽區和中國足協，我們的備戰是一如既往地在廣州進行 ，我們帶了精兵強將的15個人，在廣州進行了一些進攻和防守有關的訓練 ，希望隊員在比賽當中完成教練布置的打法 。”談到派出這支球隊陣容目的時 ，劉智宇表示：“陣容是以年輕球員為主 ，希望鍛煉年輕球員 ，展示年輕球隊的拚勁和作風 。”
“精兵強將的15個人” ，劉智宇說出這番話時帶著些許無奈 ，因為他也清楚就這麽點人數 ，連球隊的替補席也坐不滿 ，但由於今年中超球隊的足協杯報名名單來自於中超的名單，就算臨時開了一個特別轉會窗 ，也隻能補報與入選國腳人數相同的球員，無法像上個賽季因和亞冠賽程“撞車”時 ，能大幅啟用預備隊的年輕球員那樣，所以廣州隊隻能從那支經曆亞冠洗禮的預備隊中挑選8名球員 ，加上原本提拔進入中超名單中的年輕球員 ，組成15人班底來參加本屆足協杯賽事 。
出現在濟南賽區的這支廣州隊實力如何 ，其實大家早已心知肚明 ，缺少一幫主力強將的加持，球隊與其他中超和中甲球隊有著明顯的差距 ，與中乙和中冠球隊大概是旗鼓相當 ，而且他們還缺少連貫的比賽考驗，是否處於自己最佳狀態也是個疑問 。在談及本屆足協杯目標時 ，劉智宇也隻能表示 ：“我們一場場來吧，爭取勝利 。”
與青島青春島的比賽開始後 ，場麵也一如預計 ，實力基本相當的兩隊打得有來有回，這支年輕的廣州隊也不像今年亞冠一樣 ，遇上的是實力遠超自己的對手 ，還能創造不少接近對方球門的機會 ，呂世豪和今年得到過中超出場機會的楊德江都用遠射 ，考驗了青春島的防線 。
不過年輕隊員畢竟缺少實戰演練機會 ，比賽第36分鍾 ，青春島長傳發動進攻，廣州隊小將王天擎和青春島球員李凱拚搶時犯規，主裁果斷判罰點球 ，老將宋博操刀命中，青春島首開紀錄 。
易邊再戰 ，廣州隊加強攻勢 ，希望能夠扳平比分 ，但由於板凳上能供挑選的球員實在太少 ，劉智宇在換人調整時 ，隻能讓替補門將郭嘉宇出場 ，讓首發出場的門將張健智換身衣服 ，頂上前線擔當高中鋒 ，而最終球隊也未能取得進球 ，以0比1的比分結束今年的足協杯征程 。
或許對於目前的廣州隊而言 ，15人陣容打完足協杯首輪 ，已經是最經濟 、最體麵的結果了 。
