《曼徹斯特晚報》稱 ，曼聯目前顯然需要簽下一名中場球員 ，但朗尼克的解決方案不可能是在目前已經陷入困境的情況下投入更多的資金 。曼聯擁有足球世界上第二昂貴的陣容 ，不管目前中場多麽脆弱 ，他們都有足夠的個人天賦參與爭冠。此外，朗尼克隻是曼聯本賽季的臨時主帥 ，賽季末將會卸任並進入紅魔管理層 。曼聯的想法是希望在任命長期主帥之後 ，讓長期主帥來統籌負責轉會和引援事宜 。曼聯目前仍然處於過度和新開端的尷尬變化之中，因此曼聯冬窗引進球員的可能性非常之低。
曼聯在沒有確定新的主帥之前 ，不太可能批準在轉會市場上投入資金引進新援 。但是無論下一任主帥是誰 ，曼聯都需要在夏季 ，甚至是冬季就開始對臃腫的陣容進行“減脂” 。紅魔隊內有29名一線隊球員 ，一些邊緣球員隻能在國內的杯賽中獲得出場時間 。根據數據統計 ，迪恩-亨德森和林加德本賽季還沒有在英超聯賽中首發過 ，格林伍德在朗尼克麾下僅僅出場了11分鍾，拜利和馬夏爾在聯賽中分別首發過3次和2次 。曼聯缺乏戰略思維 ，這不僅讓他們賽場上受阻，也給管理帶來了麻煩 。
