現年32歲的奧巴梅揚在2018年1月加盟阿森納 ，並且曾擔任球隊隊長 。不過奧巴梅揚已經不是第一次違反隊規，今年2月他因為不遵守防疫規則受到過紀律處罰，而今年3月他同樣是去法國探親後歸隊遲到 ，並再次受到處罰 。但奧巴梅揚卻依然我行我素 ，終於讓主帥阿爾特塔和阿森納俱樂部忍無可忍 。
在被隊內封殺期間 ，奧巴梅揚隻能進行單獨訓練 。而《太陽報》指出，阿森納這次對奧巴梅揚的處罰非常嚴厲 ，直到12月26日阿森納客場對諾維奇的英超聯賽奧巴梅揚都將被排除出比賽名單 。而在那之後奧巴梅揚將回國備戰非洲杯 ，因此奧巴梅揚下一次代表阿森納參賽也許要等到明年2月非洲杯結束之後 。
而且奧巴梅揚也可能在冬季轉會離開阿森納 。此前《獨立報》報道稱 ，由於阿圭羅因心髒問題被迫宣布退役 ，西甲豪門巴薩準備在明年1月引進一名新前鋒 ，而奧巴梅揚是巴薩考慮的引援目標之一 。
