此前利物浦主帥克洛普曾表示非洲杯是“小型錦標賽”，這引發了爭議，蔑视不少非洲足壇人士對克洛普輕視非洲杯的非洲非洲言論表示不滿 。而塞內加爾國家隊主帥阿利烏-西塞在接受采訪時表示 ，杯没是决赛非洲球員拯救了克洛普 。
2022年非洲杯將在喀麥隆舉行 ，都没比賽時間是赢过1月9日至2月6日。利物浦隊內的渣叔遭批薩拉赫 、馬內 、蔑视凱塔等人都要回國參賽 ，非洲非洲這將對利物浦在明年年初的杯没比賽造成很大影響 。克洛普此前表示 ：“我經常聽人們說到明年3月才有國家隊比賽日 ，决赛但我想說 ，都没明年1月在非洲還有一項小型錦標賽，赢过我想那時候亞洲和南美洲也有比賽。渣叔遭批很棒，我等不及了 ！”
阿利烏-西塞在上周末批評了克洛普的這番言論，“他以為他是誰 ？我才是塞內加爾國家隊主帥 ，我的球員在利物浦為克洛普效力 。我尊重利物浦 ，但我不尊重輕視非洲足球賽事的克洛普 。是因為非洲球員他才有了今天 ，之前他輸掉了每一場決賽 ，直到薩拉赫、馬內 、馬蒂普拯救了他 ，讓他首次贏得了歐冠決賽 。”
阿利烏-西塞接著說 ：“今天他有膽量把非洲杯稱作‘小型錦標賽’ ，但非洲杯的參賽球隊和歐洲杯相同 ，都是24支國家隊。那麽他對此怎麽看呢 ？非洲杯同樣擁有超級巨星 ，而且這些巨星目前正在幫助克洛普在利物浦大放異彩 。非洲杯的質量和歐洲杯相同 。”
值得一提的是 ，克洛普此前還曾希望和幾支非洲國家隊協商 ，讓他們允許馬內 、薩拉赫等球員推遲回國家隊報到 ，留在利物浦參加明年1月2日對切爾西的關鍵大戰後再回各自國家隊。不過克洛普此前的言論惹惱了阿利烏-西塞 ，恐怕塞內加爾國家隊未必願意給克洛普這個麵子 。
