廣州城隊將於9月3日在主場迎戰中超聯賽第16輪對手 ，话李天津津門虎隊。玮锋這也是当年李瑋鋒掛帥廣州城隊後執教的首場正式比賽 。在2日下午的欠薪賽前新聞發布會上 ，李瑋鋒以當年深足被欠薪8個月後奪冠的个月干實例以及大連人隊本賽季的頑強表現 ，來間接激勵自己的拿冠球隊 。
李瑋鋒在賽前發布會上稱 ：“我們現在在全中超來講 ，连人丟球數是放狠很多的 。我在有限幾天的话李訓練中 ，我要把大家放到合適的玮锋位置上 ，讓他們不斷補充 ，当年明確自己的欠薪職責 。” 他還表示，个月干“現在主要是拿冠要讓人看到我們想要活下來的品質 ，這是我來到隊伍當中我跟隊員講得比較多的 。我們能夠看到現在中超的球隊有8支、10支都出了問題 。但是我也說了 ，我們要做橫向、縱向比較。”
李瑋鋒並沒有強調本隊麵臨的困境 。他說：“比咱們難的球隊 ，人家在做什麽呢 ？我們也在看大連人的比賽 ，看他們的人員——閻相闖 、朱挺，這個年齡了，再加上他們從中甲江西找來的前鋒（商隱） ，人家都能夠進球 ，那咱們怎麽沒就做好呢 ？從球員的名氣來說 ，我們隻有比他們好 ，沒有不好 。我說了 ，做任何事情 ，先在我們身上找問題 ，少一些抱怨。”
李瑋鋒還回憶18年前作為球員隨深足奪得首屆中超聯賽冠軍的那段往事 。他說 ：“我們2004年的時候欠薪8個月不也奪得了冠軍麽 ？這是為啥 ？是因為我們還有想法 、還有夢想 ，當年我最怕的就是沒有想法、沒有欲望 。所以我跟我們隊員講，在這裏千萬不要跟我說你多有大名氣 ，你的歲數是老隊員，我不看這個 ，就看你的心 。我也要跟小孩講 ，你們要有表現去贏得我讓你上場的機會 。怎麽去超過這些老隊員呢 ？你們要比他們練得更多 ，你把場上的東西做得更多。我到這個球隊 ，誰也不要跟我說（抱怨的話） ，要表現出欲望 。” （文/北青體育 肖赧 ）
