值得一提的是 ，這並不是馬丁內斯首次在點球前挑釁對手 。在今夏美洲杯半決賽中 ，阿根廷和哥倫比亞打到點球大戰，當哥倫比亞球員米納主罰點球前 ，馬丁內斯故意對米納說：“我可以看出你很緊張 ，我知道你會朝哪個方向踢 。看我怎麽撲出來。”結果米納果然罰失了點球 ，而馬丁內斯則幫助阿根廷贏得點球大戰晉級決賽 ，並最終奪得美洲杯冠軍 。
