丹麥隊的主場作戰 ，芬蘭隊的帅赛歐洲杯正賽首秀 ，本來應該備受矚目的后落比賽，卻因一次意外打斷 。泪场雖然埃裏克森轉危為安 ，比赛但在比賽重啟之後 ，告诉雙方球員在比賽中的生命心態無疑都受到了影響 。賽後 ，意义兩隊談論的丹麦队主焦點都集中在了埃裏克森的身上，包括剛剛贏得曆史性勝利的帅赛芬蘭 。

芬蘭主帥卡內爾瓦贏了球 ，卻依然把比賽的重點放在埃裏克森身上 ：“對我們來講 ，這是一個讓人百感交集的夜晚 。我們首次出現在歐洲杯 ，聽到國歌就讓我們動容 ，接著就是埃裏克森遭遇的事情。比賽重啟前 ，我告訴球員 ，我能理解他們的心情，我能理解埃裏克森出現意外後 ，他們的心裏會怎麽想 。我隻是對他們說 ，讓他們盡量集中精力 ，我知道這不容易 ，但球員們做得很不錯。”
賽後 ，卡內爾瓦賽後的情緒也很激動 ：“因為不同的原因，我們會永遠記住這場比賽。芬蘭隊的進球功臣波赫揚帕洛則說：“對當時的我們而言 ，回到場上重新比賽並不容易 ，而這件事對丹麥有多難 ，我們自然可以想見 。這是一場偉大的勝利 ，但在我看來比勝利更重要的，則是埃裏克森的情況。”
