在今夏轉會期結束前，望逃埃弗頓曾試圖用J羅交換波爾圖的路易斯-迪亞茲 ，但談判沒能成功，其中部分原因是J羅的周薪高達20萬英鎊 。J羅顯然不願意留在埃弗頓繼續枯坐冷板凳，《泰晤士報》透露 ，J羅已經和一家卡塔爾球隊取得聯係 ，開始了轉會談判 。
據《郵報》報道 ，J羅在上周六已經離開埃弗頓飛赴卡塔爾 ，和潛在買家進行麵談 。而《衛報》則指出，有意簽下J羅的卡塔爾球隊是阿爾賴揚。著名足球記者羅馬諾稱，埃弗頓已經允許J羅離隊 ，這樣可以為俱樂部節約大筆薪水，接下來J羅隻需要和卡塔爾球隊談妥合同條款即可 。由於卡塔爾聯賽的夏季轉會窗口要在9月底才關閉 ，因此隻要談妥轉會 ，J羅就可以在本月離開埃弗頓去卡塔爾淘金。
