36歲的盧斯蒂格資曆最老 ，早在2006年就獲得瑞典國家隊征召，國家隊生涯15載總計出戰87場 ，打進9球 。34歲的馬庫斯-貝裏則於2008年首次入選瑞典國家隊 ，至今出戰90場 ，斬獲24球 。
正式退出國家隊的這5名球員 ，均隨瑞典征戰了前不久結束的歐洲杯 。在他們的努力下，瑞典隊在小組賽中取得了極為出色的成績 ，不但戰勝了波蘭和斯洛伐克 ，而且還逼平了實力強大的西班牙 。然而 ，頗為遺憾的是 ，由於在對陣烏克蘭的1/8決賽中落敗 ，他們最終未能更進一步 。
