北京時間10月16日 ，越南员武據越南媒體“baoquocte”報道 ，前锋强赛越南球員阮進靈（Nguyễn Tiến Linh）力壓孫興慜、荣膺武磊等人 ，周最榮膺世預賽12強賽周最佳球員 。佳球仅當地時間星期四下午 ，票率他獲得了高達73.38%的越南员武選票 ，武磊的前锋强赛得票率僅為1.81% 。
阮進靈是荣膺越南隊內唯一一名從資格賽第三輪開始就一直入圍周最佳球員提名的選手 ，與亞洲最頂級球員一較高下 。周最亞足聯主頁寫道 ：“他打了兩場比賽（對中國和阿曼） ，佳球仅總共打了171分鍾 ，票率進了兩次球 ，越南员武準確傳球率是前锋强赛79% 。”越南媒體評論說 ，荣膺他的技術表現能力甚至接近孫興慜 。
得票率排名第二位的是沙特阿拉伯球員菲爾斯-阿爾比拉坎 ，他後來居上拿到了8.2%的票數 ，力壓伊朗前鋒薩達爾-阿茲蒙（Sardar Azmoun）緊隨其後 。效力於俄羅斯俱樂部聖彼得堡澤尼特的阿茲蒙以8.08%的得票率排名第三位 。
在投票起始階段緊追阮進靈的孫興慜最終隻拿到了2.41%的票數 ，中國球員武磊拿到了1.81%的票數 。
其他提名人包括薩拉赫-艾爾（阿曼） 、田中碧（日本）、阿伊丁-赫魯斯蒂奇（澳大利亞） 、穆罕默德-科多（黎巴嫩） 、（沙特） 、赫裏賓（敘利亞） 。
