據韓國媒體報道 ，韓國足協將申辦 2023 年亞洲杯 ，足协洲杯韓國足協官員16日表示，表态办亚“上周末 ，将申我們舉行了第一次會議 ，日本商討接手亞洲杯主辦權的卡塔可能性 ，目前我們對此保持謹慎，联酋因為接手這一賽事的头号條件沒有透露 ，但舉辦亞洲杯的对手意願非常明確 。”
韓國上一次舉辦亞洲杯是韩国在 1960 年在首爾 ，時隔63年後 ，足协洲杯韓國又有機會舉辦這一亞洲最大的表态办亚足球節日 。
韓國足協認為 ，将申關於亞洲杯主辦權的日本競爭可能成為一場速度的較量 ，因為情況緊急 ，卡塔因此在亞足聯看來 ，評估舉辦地的重要因素是主辦城市和體育場的條件 ，以及商務運作和開發的能力 。
作為亞洲杯競標的對手 ，日本 、卡塔爾和阿聯酋是韓國的頭號對手 。日本方麵剛剛接手了中國放棄的東亞杯賽事 ，而對於韓國來說，2002年韓日世界杯期間建造的體育設施足以用來舉辦亞洲杯 。2022年世界杯的主辦國卡塔爾此前打算申辦2027年亞洲杯 ，但也有可能提前到2023年 。而上屆亞洲杯的主辦國阿聯酋也對該賽事非常感興趣 。
