在範巴斯滕效力於AC米蘭時，米蘭王朝帶動了對越位規則的利用 。在防守端 ，AC米蘭利用造越位壓製對手的空間。在進攻端，AC米蘭則充分利用了反越位 。“那時的我們 ，的確主宰了足球世界 。”範巴斯滕繼續說道，“但如果沒了越位 ，球隊會找到另外的比賽方式 。如果沒有越位 ，那球員們麵臨的問題就會少很多 。球隊仍然會找到其他方法來踢一場精彩的比賽，就像現在一樣 ，但沒有這種糟糕的規則 。在球場變得更大之後 ，控球的球員會有更多的選擇 ，教練也會相處更好的方法來利用這一點。”
範巴斯滕還希望保證足夠的比賽時間：“觀眾不願意看到場上過多出現浪費時間的做法 ，比如扔界外球拖延時間 。我希望可以像籃球比賽那樣停表暫停 ，這樣可以有效防止浪費比賽時間 。”
