最後的中超保級懸念集中在了三支球隊身上，分別是積18分的天津津門虎 ，積17分的重慶兩江競技，以及積16分的大連人 。其中，天津津門虎和重慶兩江競技都是取勝即可上岸。而在最後一輪的保級大戰中十分跌宕起伏 ，大連人隊率先取得了大比分領先 ，隨後重慶隊2比1逆轉了武漢隊 ，在比賽還有不到10分鍾結束時，天津津門虎仍是0-0平滄州雄獅 ，如果是這樣的比分結束，那麽津門虎將是參加附加賽的球隊 。然而令人意想不到的是 ，津門虎在比賽第85分鍾通過一個頗有爭議的進球絕殺了比賽 ，最終津門虎攜手重慶隊壓哨保級 ，大連人雖然大比分贏球仍需參加附加賽 。
接下來的中超附加賽 ，大連人將對陣中甲成都蓉城 ，青島隊對陣浙江FC ，對於大連和青島兩支足球底蘊深厚的城市 ，最終不得已參加保級附加賽也是十分令人唏噓，尤其是大連人，本賽季他們是中超少數幾支不受欠薪困擾的球隊 ，並且第二階段外援拉爾森 、博阿滕、丹尼爾森等外援悉數回歸 ，在第二階段開始取得兩連勝的戰績 ，誰也沒想到 ，在關鍵時刻掉了鏈子 ，尤其是在對陣重慶價值6分的保級戰中輸球 ，最終不得不通過參加附加賽去保住中超資格 。
