非洲杯預選賽第6輪 ，非洲科特迪瓦主場對陣埃塞俄比亞的杯预比賽中出現了意外的狀況 ，當比賽進行到第81分鍾時 ，选赛當值主裁判查爾斯-布魯暈倒在地，主裁經過醫護人員的判昏急救後 ，查爾斯-布魯立即被送往醫院 。厥倒由於第四官員是起比前结科特迪瓦人 ，根據回避原則 ，赛提束第四官員無法頂替主裁判吹罰比賽，非洲最終 ，杯预助理裁判宣布這場比賽提前結束 ，选赛科特迪瓦以3-1的主裁比分擊敗埃塞俄比亞 。
當比賽進行到第81分時 ，判昏主裁判查爾斯-布魯突感身體不適，厥倒場上球員也發現了他的起比前结異常，隨後在球員攙扶下 ，查爾斯-布魯緩慢地走向場邊 。但是在走向場邊的過程中 ，查爾斯-布魯倒地陷入昏厥 ，醫護人員馬上進場進行急救 ，隨後查爾斯-布魯被直接送往醫院。
根據規則 ，如果當值主裁判因故無法繼續吹罰比賽 ，應當由第四官員頂替主裁判繼續執法。但是本場比賽的第四官員是科特迪瓦人，考慮到利益關聯，根據回避的原則 ，第四官員不能執法這場比賽 。經過一番討論後 ，助理裁判最終宣布本場比賽提前結束 ，當時科特迪瓦3-1領先埃塞俄比亞 ，最終的比分也就定格在3-1 。
科特迪瓦本場取勝後 ，以預選賽小組第一的身份出線。效力於AC米蘭的中場大將凱西在本場比賽打進一粒點球 。
