根據規則，如果當值主裁判因故無法繼續吹罰比賽，應當由第四官員頂替主裁判繼續執法。但是本場比賽的第四官員是科特迪瓦人 ，考慮到利益關聯 ，根據回避的原則 ，第四官員不能執法這場比賽 。經過一番討論後 ，助理裁判最終宣布本場比賽提前結束 ，當時科特迪瓦3-1領先埃塞俄比亞，最終的比分也就定格在3-1。
科特迪瓦本場取勝後 ，以預選賽小組第一的身份出線 。效力於AC米蘭的中場大將凱西在本場比賽打進一粒點球 。
