意大利教練孔蒂在本周二正式成為熱刺主帥 ，非首並且在周中的选记歐會杯率隊3-2獲勝取得開門紅。不過《鏡報》透露 ，曝直到最后熱刺並非孔蒂的孔蒂刻仍執教首選 ，他在決定接手熱刺之前一直等待曼聯的热刺邀請 。
足球記者羅伯托-戈塔表示 ：“據我所知 ，非首孔蒂直到最後一刻都在等待曼聯 ，选记曼聯擁有更好的曝直到最后陣容和更有決定性的球員。然而曼聯俱樂部從未公開表達過對主帥索爾斯克亞缺乏信心 ，孔蒂刻仍甚至還對索爾斯克亞展現出支持……如果孔蒂去曼聯執教 ，热刺他應該會立即獲勝 。非首而去熱刺執教 ，选记他應該為下賽季的曝直到最后球隊做好準備 。我認為他做了正確的孔蒂刻仍選擇。”
在第9輪英超聯賽中 ，曼聯主場0-5慘敗給死敵利物浦 ，賽後就傳出了索爾斯克亞可能下課的消息 。而當時孔蒂被視為曼聯新主帥的首選 ，意大利媒體甚至稱曼聯高層已經在接觸孔蒂的經紀人 。但在第10輪英超聯賽 ，曼聯客場3-0戰勝熱刺 ，索爾斯克亞用一場勝利保住了帥位 ，反而是熱刺主帥努諾-桑托因為這場失利而下課。
在周中的歐會杯比賽 ，熱刺主場3-2戰勝維特斯 ，孔蒂取得上任後的開門紅 。不過熱刺在一度3-0領先的情況下丟了兩球 ，中後衛羅梅羅還兩黃變一紅被罰下 ，孔蒂坦言 ，球隊還需要更多的時間和耐心 ，通過努力工作才能實現重要的目標 。
