其實，在英格蘭場邊的球員當中 ，斯特林 、格拉利什等球員都有著非常出色的腳法 。然而在點球大戰中，索斯蓋特卻是先後派出了三名來自曼聯的球員 ，或許索斯蓋特是受到了索爾斯克亞在歐聯杯決賽點球大戰中曼聯穩定發揮（當時雙方點球大戰一共踢了11輪）的啟發 ，一股腦地將曼聯眾將士推上了前線 。
可惜的是，曼聯隊內的這幾大球星卻辜負了索斯蓋特的期望。除了馬奎爾一如既往的穩定之外 ，拉什福德以及桑喬卻成為了英格蘭的“背鍋俠” 。從這個角度上來講，英格蘭未能在家門口拿到歐洲杯冠軍的這個鍋需要曼聯來背了 。
