法國隊在歐洲杯中的超成出局表現遠遠低於法國媒體和球迷的預期 ，德尚出征歐洲杯誌在奪冠 ，球迷但沒想到在1/8決賽爆冷負於瑞士 。希望隨後德尚被曝要考慮辭職，德尚齊達內隨後接手。留队但是法国民意調查顯示德尚的支持率非常高，有8成的不该背锅球迷希望德尚留下來帶隊 。
法國媒體《巴黎人報》進行了一項民意調查 ，超成出局盡管歐洲杯表現不佳 ，球迷但是希望依然有超過80%的球迷希望德尚能夠留下。《巴黎人報》表示，德尚許多人對德尚執教的留队前景表示樂觀 ，雖然歐洲杯爆冷被瑞士淘汰 ，法国但這種結果是不该背锅多項因素造成的，並非是超成出局德尚執教能力不強。
德尚和法國隊的合同到2022年卡塔爾世界杯結束後到期 ，目前法國隊主帥帶隊踢了117場比賽 ，取得了76勝22平19負的成績。而法國足協至今也沒人表態德尚必須下課 ，未來法國足協要和德尚進行磋商 ，探討歐洲杯出現的問題 。德尚去留問題則是自己擁有很大的主動權，目前沒人說德尚要走 ，隻是德尚自己有走的想法。
而齊達內已經離開了皇馬帥位 ，執教法國隊是齊祖的一個夢想 ，未來齊達內如果沒有執教其它俱樂部 ，按照原來計劃，可以在2022年世界杯結束後執教法國隊 。如果德尚如今選擇留下 ，齊祖還需要賦閑1年 。
