梅西2000年加入巴塞羅那青訓營 ，牙打2005年進入巴塞羅那一線隊 。电话今年夏天時 ，梅西马竞巴塞羅那宣布由於西甲聯盟對工資總額等多項限製 ，加盟俱樂部無法與梅西完成續約和注冊 ，西蒙询问性梅西自由離隊 。牙打這意味著梅西在巴塞羅那二十多年的电话俱樂部生涯就此結束，一個時代落幕 。梅西马竞但是加盟 ，在新賽季開始之前宣布這一消息 ，無疑讓梅西進退兩難 ，隻能被動選擇下家 。最終 ，梅西免簽加盟了法甲豪門巴黎聖日耳曼 。
梅西此前在接受采訪時也承認 ，自己的確收到了不少球隊的報價，而這其中或許就包括馬競 。西班牙媒體《阿斯報》最新消息稱，西蒙尼曾經問過蘇亞雷斯 ，是否有可能將梅西招致麾下 。消息稱 ，西蒙尼確認曾經試圖將梅西帶至萬達大都會球場 ：“我沒有給梅西打電話 ，但我確實打過電話給蘇亞雷斯 ，問他梅西過得怎麽樣 ，是不是渴望繼續留在巴塞羅那 ，或者說梅西加盟馬競的可能性有多大 。”值得一提的是 ，蘇亞雷斯和梅西的摯友，兩人在效力巴塞羅那時期建立了身後的友誼，至今仍是彼此為知己 。
