雖然世預賽12強賽僅僅進行了兩輪 ，软柿子但是国足各方普遍看衰中國隊 。韓國媒體Best Eleven表示 ：從12強賽的南队能输前麵兩輪比賽來看，越南隊的表現都要比中國隊好 ，雖然越南隊也是遭到了2連敗 ，但是他們每一場比賽都給人留下了非常深刻的印象 。他們對陣沙特隊取得了進球 ，與澳大利亞隊的比賽同樣是表現出來十分不錯的進攻能力 ，他們始終有非常不錯的表現 ，精神狀態十分好 。
越媒soha發文《當歸化球員加入之後國足還是沒有進步，如果輸給越南他們會驚慌失措》。文章對準的是目前在世預賽12強賽中一分都沒有拿到的中國隊與越南隊。他們認為 ，歸化球員沒有提升中國隊的水平 ，相反中國隊的表現不如上屆世預賽 。而越南最近幾年進步很大，未來的對壘 ，越南無論是在技術、球員還是求勝欲望上，都明顯高於國足 。
以前在國足的眼中 ，越南等東南亞球隊是軟柿子 ，可此一時彼一時 ，現如今國足到成了魚腩球隊 。在越南球迷看來，中國隊是這個小組裏麵最弱的球隊 。10月7日 ，中國隊與越南隊將展開直接對壘 。從越南已經傳來了“輸誰都行，但就是絕對不能輸給中國隊”的消息 。
結束與日本隊的比賽後，國足已經從卡塔爾轉戰阿聯酋沙迦 ，球隊將會在那裏進行為期約一個月的封閉備戰 。經過3天的就地休整之後 ，當地時間9月12日開始 ，國足會從新投入到備戰訓練中 。前兩輪比賽表現不佳的國足 ，在對陣越南的比賽中已經不容有失。
