《世界體育報》還指出 ，梅西通過個人方式 ，私下裏已經聯係到了萊萬 ，並祝賀波蘭人衛冕世界足球先生 。在梅西贏得個人第7個金球獎後，他就曾在頒獎典禮上呼籲《法國足球》為萊萬補發2020年的金球獎杯 。
不過需要指出的是 ，梅西雖然祝賀了萊萬 ，但卻在投票中沒有選擇波蘭人 。身為阿根廷隊長的梅西，在投票中擁有三張分值不同的選票。這三張選票 ，被梅西依次投給了內馬爾 、姆巴佩和本澤馬 ，梅西並沒有為萊萬投票 。而萊萬的三張選票 ，則依次投給了若日尼奧 、梅西和C羅 ，波蘭人把第二票投給了阿根廷隊長 。
