本屆歐洲杯的战场前5場比賽 ，英格蘭均零封對手 ，零封從小組賽三場到淘汰賽的皮克前兩輪 ，英格蘭門神都保持零封 ，福德球隊也在本屆比賽未丟一球 。荣获可以說 ，欧洲防守是杯金這支英格蘭隊打進半決賽的關鍵因素 ，而皮克福德在門前的表現也很關鍵 。直到半決賽踢丹麥 ，皮克福德的大門才宣告失守 。
另一方麵 ，意大利雖然拿到了冠軍 ，他們的門神多納魯馬的發揮也是有如神助 ，但藍衣軍團在進入淘汰賽之後每一場都丟球。這樣一來，皮克福德也因此力壓多納魯馬，拿到了2020歐洲杯的金手套 。
