5月28日 ，足剩赴國足訓練現場采訪的余比媒體記者意外地發現，入籍球員費南多沒有隨隊參訓。赛月赛区隨後 ，日离國足主帥李鐵確認 ，費南多因傷缺席5月30日晚國足與關島隊的比賽 。費南多的名字也因此被排除在國足當場比賽23人參賽名單之外。
那麽費南多還有機會參加40強賽餘下比賽麽？答案是否定的 。據了解 ，費南多是在27日下午國足分組對抗訓練臨近尾聲時造成腿部肌肉拉傷的 。據悉 ，費南多其實是舊傷複發 。一般來說 ，遭遇此類傷勢的球員從治療到康複至少需要幾周時間 。這意味著費南多已無法代表國足參加40強賽餘下4場比賽 。
據了解 ，考慮到本隊人員進入賽場後 ，與由境外而來的對手成員 、比賽官員 、裁判員近距離接觸 ，國足方麵最終決定將費南多轉移到駐地一處獨立區域 ，接受隔離 。費南多按計劃將於6月2日離隊 ，隨後返回廣州接受治療 。同樣為了確保人員健康安全 ，球隊要求其他所有成員在費南多離隊前 ，不得再與他接觸。
