皇馬此前和一些歐洲豪門想要創建歐超聯賽 ，有任並因此受到了歐足聯和球迷們的撕破赛批評和反對 ，而巴黎聖日耳曼是脸纳少數沒有加入歐超計劃的豪門俱樂部 。納賽爾表示 ：“我不會隱瞞，取消我們和皇馬幾乎沒有任何關係 。餐和皇何关我不想回顧過去已經發生過的巴黎事情 ，但我們相信小俱樂部也可以享受足球 ，马没而他們（皇馬）並不這麽認為 。有任”
不過進球網指出 ，撕破赛巴黎聖日耳曼和皇馬兩家俱樂部之間關係變得糟糕 ，更主要的原因還是皇馬公開挖角姆巴佩 。姆巴佩和大巴黎的合同在今夏到期，而且多次拒絕俱樂部提出的續約合同 。此前皇馬主席弗洛倫蒂諾 、主帥安切洛蒂 、以及多名球員都公開表示希望簽下姆巴佩 ，就在本場比賽前的新聞發布會上 ，皇馬前鋒本澤馬還放話稱 ：“每個人都知道他（姆巴佩）早晚有一天會來皇馬踢球。”
皇馬這種公開挖角的做法激怒了巴黎聖日耳曼，在賽前納賽爾主席還取消了和弗洛倫蒂諾共進晚餐的原定計劃 。納賽爾主席表示 ：“姆巴佩是一位有著鋼鐵般心態的偉大冠軍 。他是一位模範職業球員 ，我可以向你們保證 ，他隻想贏得這類比賽 。他正為巴黎聖日爾曼效力 ，為這座城市而自豪，他將永遠如此 。”
賽前兩隊出場時 ，本澤馬還再次遭到姆巴佩交談 ，兩人笑容滿麵看起來非常高興 。一些球迷在網上表示 ：“皇馬的未來隊友” 、“我想我們都知道他們在談什麽” 、“所以姆巴佩真的不會去其他球隊了 。”
不過在本場比賽姆巴佩麵對潛在的未來下家皇馬時並不腿軟 ，他先是在第61分鍾製造了一個點球 ，可惜梅西將點球罰失 。而在全場補時第4分鍾 ，姆巴佩在禁區左側一過二後小角度射門得分 ，幫助巴黎聖日耳曼1-0絕殺獲勝 。
