意大利對奧地利賽前 ，博努有記者提問，奇赛前全意大利球員會不會在比賽開始前行屈膝禮 ，行屈膝礼聲援支持種族平等的奥地行動。此前對威爾士的利踢比賽 ，有5名意大利球員在賽前做出了單膝跪地動作 。法德對於這個話題 ，博努意大利隊更衣室領袖博努奇表示 ：“（上一場比賽）我們回到酒店後開了一個會，奇赛前全我們共同決定 ，行屈膝礼明天的奥地比賽我們會全部人一起行屈膝禮 ，之前對威爾士的利踢比賽我們就應該這樣做 。如果大家都要求（球員們）做出這個反種族歧視動作，法德我們會進行討論 。博努”而據意大利隊新聞官透露 ，奇赛前全奧地利方麵並未要求意大利球員在賽前行屈膝禮，行屈膝礼後者的舉動是完全出於自願 。
博努奇透露 ，球隊上下現在團結一心，“這是一場非常關鍵的比賽，對手很難對付 ，但我們更衣室的氣氛很棒，這是最重要的 。我們很尊重奧地利 ，他們有實力 ，體能和身體都很棒 ，會給我們帶來一場艱難的比賽 ，但我們已經準備好踢出自己的足球 。我們從未說過自己比別的隊強 ，隻是我們現在充滿了信心，在主教練曼奇尼的帶領下，我們走上了正確的軌道 。”
