巴薩經濟狀況不佳，巴萨媒體曝出了梅西會降薪續約的喉舌消息 。而巴薩喉舌《每日體育報》的大重著名記者馬斯卡羅表示 ，羅貝托 、学梅西降薪别布斯克茨 、只把嘴上皮克以及阿爾巴四名巴薩的爱挂重臣也應該向梅西一般降薪，這有些道德綁架的巴萨味道 。
梅西與巴薩的喉舌合同已經結束 ，巴薩高層一直渴望與梅西續約，大重而從西班牙主流媒體給出的学梅西降薪别消息看 ，梅西會降薪續約巴薩 ，只把嘴上他會得到一份為期五年的爱挂合同 ，而稅前年薪為6000萬歐元 。巴萨與梅西此前的喉舌工資相比 ，此番梅西的大重降薪幅度為50% 。
盡管梅西的續約還沒有官宣 ，但是這已經成為了公開的秘密 。而就在敲定了梅西的續約後 ，巴薩喉舌開始道德綁架其他巴薩球員降薪 。《每日體育報》記者馬斯卡羅在專欄中如此寫道：“梅西是值得效仿的榜樣 ，無論是做人方麵 ，還是足球方麵，他是一名足球運動員的典範 ，他忠誠 、團結 、價值觀超正 。巴薩目前經曆著史上最艱難的時刻 ，梅西同意降薪50%續約 ，梅西想留在巴薩，這裏是他的家 ，他做出了巨大的犧牲。”
“梅西降薪續約就是一麵鏡子，其他巴薩球員應該對著這麵鏡子審視自己 。對球隊的愛不能僅停留在口頭上 ，而是要體現在行動上。巴薩的債務已經達到15億歐元 ，球隊迫切需要球員降低工資 。我認為 ，皮克 、布斯克茨 、阿爾巴以及羅貝托這樣的重臣應該采取與梅西一樣的降薪做法。錢不是萬能的 ，尤其是你們已經賺了這麽多錢 。”
《每日體育報》的最新消息稱 ，巴薩高層已經與皮克、布斯克茨 、阿爾巴以及羅伯托的經紀人就降薪一事進行了會談，俱樂部現在的想法是 ，如果不接受降薪的話 ，四人可以延長合同年限 ，也就是說總的工資額不變 ，但是為巴薩踢球的合同會延長。
需要指出的是，在梅西降薪續約的前提下 ，《每日體育報》要求巴薩球員學習梅西降薪的做法有些道德綁架的意味 。梅西在降薪50%的情況下依舊會得到6000萬歐元的稅前薪水 ，從絕對的工資數量上說 ，這依舊是足壇第一高薪 。巴薩財政困難 ，還依舊給梅西高薪 ，同時道德綁架其他球員降薪，這樣的舉動讓人無語 。
