北京時間3日淩晨，中國男足在卡塔爾世界杯預選賽亞洲區12強賽首輪比賽中以0比3不敵澳大利亞隊 。源叮音干比賽結束後 ，嘱国足不整中國隊代表團內部對球隊的受外敗因作了及時總結 ，“低估對手”成為共識 。界声中國足協主席陳戌源及時叮囑教練組及工作組成員 ，扰战日本不要停留在對首戰失利的何调遺憾和自責中，更不要受外界聲音的陈戌幹擾 。
比賽開始階段 ，源叮音干中國隊利用積極的嘱国足不整拚搶 ，獲得了較多的受外控球權 。隨著時間推移 ，界声場上局勢逐漸被澳大利亞隊掌控 。扰战日本第24分鍾 ，何调中國隊0比1落後 。陈戌2分鍾之後 ，博伊爾在禁區線附近勁射遠角得手 ，中國隊陷入了更大的被動 。第71分鍾 ，中國隊後防線再次出現明顯漏洞，剛剛替補出場的杜克補射破門 。
從整場比賽來看 ，中國隊在實力上明顯處於下風 ，也沒有具備針對性的戰術布置 ，全場零射正，射門比為7比23 ，根本沒有破門機會 。9月7日23點 ，中國隊要迎戰小組中世界排名最高的日本隊 ，全隊如何調整心態和戰術打法，值得關注 。
在同組的另外一場比賽中 ，沙特隊3比1逆轉越南隊 。首輪戰罷 ，中國 、日本和越南隊都輸了球 ，中國隊因為淨勝球劣勢排名暫時墊底 。
對於12強賽首輪的失利 ，李鐵開門見山地表示 ：“我們球隊的表現確實很不好，希望球隊盡快調整 ，迎接下一場比賽 。”
對於有關球隊體能儲備是否優於40強賽的提問 ，李鐵回答說 ：“對比40強賽時 ，球員現在疲勞得多。這確實是一個客觀因素 ，但不是輸球的理由。”
對於同組第一檔球隊日本隊意外不敵阿曼隊的結果 ，李鐵表示 ：“我也看了一小部分比賽直播 。可能很多人沒有想到日本主場輸給阿曼，所以9月7日對我們是一次考驗 。”
對於部分國腳缺乏世預賽決賽階段參賽經驗的問題 ，李鐵說 ：“其實還是有些球員經曆過上屆12強賽，他們是球隊的重要保障 。但球員首先還是需要有挑戰12強賽對手的信心和勇氣 ，相信自己可以去挑戰對手 。”
