雖然本場比賽的失利很大程度上是因為曼聯早早的少一人作戰，但輸球與索聖的臨場調整也有著很大的關係。在曼聯被對手扳平之後 ，索聖用林加德換下了C羅 ，用馬蒂奇換下了B費 。這看似是一個非常大膽的換人 ，但索聖將兩位能力挽狂瀾的球員全部拿下 ，將比賽的生死交給了失靈時不靈的博格巴與林加德 ，其結果可想而知 。
在賽場上如此被動 ，曼聯輸球也是情理之中的事情 。算上這場比賽 ，索帥執教曼聯踢了11場歐冠比賽 ，其戰績為4勝7負 。而在範加爾和穆裏尼奧兩位主帥執教期間 ，曼聯共參加了20場歐冠比賽 ，取得了10勝4平6負的戰績 ，敗場數和索帥10場執教的6負相同。從這個角度上來講 ，如今的索爾斯克亞任重而道遠 。
