烏拉圭為了擺脫第4 ，避免首場淘汰賽與巴西相遇 ，需要至少從巴拉圭手上拚下1分 。考慮到兩圭的情況 ，平局或許是個皆大歡喜的結果 。而智利4戰積5分淨勝球-1 ，很可能會被擠到第4 ，在1/4決賽碰上巴西 。
