北京時間6月2日 ，名记梅西著名記者尼科洛-斯基拉報道 ，即将交易梅西即將與巴薩完成續約，巴萨新合同有效期至2023年 。续约
斯基拉在個人推特上寫道 ：“梅西將會與巴薩續約至2023年 ，至年交易很快完成 。快完”
梅西目前的名记梅西合同是在今夏到期 ，雖然去年夏天一度要求離隊，即将交易但在拉波爾塔成為巴薩新任主席 、巴萨阿圭羅順利加盟巴薩之後 ，续约梅西的至年留隊也基本上板上釘釘。
此前媒體披露 ，快完巴薩給梅西開出的名记梅西新合同，是即将交易一份2+8 ，總時長長達10年的巴萨合同 。2 ，是指梅西先會以球員的身份續約兩年 ，也就是斯基拉透露的2023年 ，具體的方式是1+1的合同 ，梅西可以在明夏提前離隊，也可以履行完這兩年的合約 。
8，則是指梅西在合同結束後 ，還會繼續擔任巴薩的形象代言人，為期8年 。這項合作是互惠互利的關係 ，巴薩可以借助梅西的個人影響力繼續賺錢 ，阿根廷人也可以從俱樂部領到工資 。
此外，由於巴薩當前的財政情況不佳 ，因此俱樂部希望梅西在續約之時能夠接受降薪 ，但是承諾會在此後的8年當中彌補阿根廷人的損失 。
