8月1日 ，《環球時報》總編輯胡錫進在參加某檔對話節目中談到了中國足球的中国足球話題 。他表示，对至达相信老大難的少能水平項目比如足球 ，未來至少能達到日韓水平 ，日韩一點問題沒有 。胡锡隻要做得對 ，中国足球日本人韓國人能做到 ，对至达我們也能做到 ！少能水平
他說 ：“我相信將來中國會取得更多的日韩金牌 。有些項目 ，胡锡比如老大難的中国足球項目 ，像足球這些大家都覺得沒什麽希望的对至达 ，最後也會 ，少能水平咱們至少能達到日本韓國的日韩水平 ，我覺得一點問題都沒有 。
“將來能達到，隻要咱們做得對。日本韓國人能做到的 ，咱們怎麽能做不到呢 ？亞洲其他國家能做到的 ，咱們中國人全能做到。
“當然 ，我們得往遠處看 。現在足球國內的市場太好了，大家都不願去到歐美‘留學’ ，全在國內踢掙錢更多，這個東西得給他改嘍 。想辦法把他們轟出去 ，到大風大浪中去鍛煉 ，回來了以後準行 。”
