為了保護當事人的隱私 ，《太陽報》沒有公布涉案英超球員的姓名和所效力的俱樂部 。不過《鏡報》 、《郵報》等媒體透露 ，這是一名31歲的球員，而且是國家隊的常客 ，他在自己的職業生涯中已經賺取了巨額薪水。
在足球界球員涉嫌兒童性犯罪的報道並非孤例 ，去年9月 ，曾效力過皇馬 、多特蒙德 、沙爾克的前德國國腳後衛梅策爾德被警方逮捕並起訴 ，罪名是他擁有和傳播兒童色情製品 。今年4月德國法庭認定梅策爾德有罪 ，並判處他入獄10個月。
