按照計劃 ，中國隊將於當地時間8日晚離開多哈 ，轉戰第3輪對陣越南隊的比賽地 ，阿聯酋沙迦 。而作為球隊唯一1名留洋球員 ，武磊則要重返西班牙 ，與西班牙人俱樂部匯合 ，參加接下來的西甲比賽 。
據了解 ，武磊為及時返回俱樂部隊，特意搭乘當地時間8日淩晨起飛的班機離開多哈 。是武磊搭乘的卡塔爾航空公司QR137航班實際起飛時間為當地時間8日淩晨2點20分 ，比既定起飛時間晚了40分鍾。
不過 ，武磊對於疲勞出征早就習以為常 。此次出行，觸動他最深的莫過於在機場與日本隊旅歐球員的偶遇 。武磊在個人社交平台上這樣寫道 ：“在我旁邊 ，幾乎一整支日本國家隊的球員都準備返回歐洲各自的俱樂部 ，真的很感觸！我們和亞洲強隊的差距確實很大 ，正視差距 ！絕不虛度每一天 ！”
從這段文字不難看出 ，此時此刻的武磊心情格外複雜 ，其中既有對中國隊技不如人的無奈與遺憾 ，亦有對強手技術水平高超的肯定與羨慕。而中國隊在12強賽前兩輪連續不敵澳大利亞隊 、日本隊的結果 ，以及中、日兩隊旅歐球員數量1比16的比例則再次說明 ，留洋具有重大意義與價值。
西甲賽程顯示 ，西班牙人隊將於當地時間9月12日下午在主場迎戰第4輪對手 ，強大的馬德裏競技隊 。據了解 ，由於中國隊下一輪與越南隊的比賽將於10月7日在阿聯酋沙迦進行，因此從備戰及防疫需求考慮 ，武磊可能最早將在隨西班牙人隊參加當地時間9月25日晚西甲第7輪客戰塞維利亞隊的比賽結束後第2天，啟程前往阿聯酋，隨後與國足匯合 。
