西班牙國家隊主帥恩裏克此前的幾期名單中都沒有皇馬球員，這讓不少皇馬球迷感到不滿。哈尔皇马不過皇馬右後衛卡瓦哈爾在本周重返西班牙國家隊，恩里他表示恩裏克並非皇馬的非反反對者，征召球員時不會在意他們效力的为团俱樂部 。
在今夏歐洲杯時 ，更好西班牙國家隊內竟然沒有任何皇馬球員 ，卡瓦克并這讓媒體和球迷都很吃驚 ，哈尔皇马甚至有人批評恩裏克是恩里故意反對皇馬 。不過卡瓦哈爾表示 ：“當我聽到這種觀點時，非反我試圖解釋澄清 ，为团事實並非如此 。更好恩裏克教練總是卡瓦克并征召他認為可以幫助實現他想要的目標的球員們 ，無論球員為哪支球隊效力 。哈尔皇马這就是恩里他的足球哲學和計劃 。”
恩裏克此前在新聞發布會上稱讚卡瓦哈爾 ：“如果他沒有受傷 ，就不會錯過任何一次國家隊的征召。我認為他已經恢複了應有的水平 ，我為此感到高興 。”而卡瓦哈爾則回應稱 ：“我很感謝恩裏克教練總是召入我 ，以及他在新聞發布會上對我的評價 。我希望能繼續這樣。恩裏克和洛佩特吉有著相似的足球理念 ，他們喜歡每個人都為了團隊奉獻 。他們是兩位非常稱職的教練，我對他倆都很認同。”
目前西班牙國家隊在世界杯歐洲區預選賽B組排名第二 ，落後瑞典2分 。接下來西班牙將在客場挑戰希臘 、主場迎戰瑞典，這兩場比賽將關係到西班牙能否直接晉級2022年世界杯 。卡瓦哈爾稱 ：“我無法想象沒有西班牙的世界杯 ，我們都必須努力確保不會發生這種情況 。我不記得西班牙上一次參加附加賽是什麽時候 ，但最好別再經曆附加賽。”
最後卡瓦哈爾表示：“這是我第一次在雅典奧林匹克球場參賽 ，我知道這裏的球迷氣氛狂熱 ，會給客隊造成壓力 。但比賽還是一樣的 ，一個足球 ，11名球員對11名球員 。我們這支國家隊很棒 ，大家團結一致 ，每個人都做出了貢獻 ，都必不可少 ，這是實現目標的基礎 。”
