穆裏尼奧指出 ：“我可以想象英格蘭目前的英格月后失望和悲傷，因為他們比以往任何時候都更接近獎杯 ，出色而且在主場輸掉決賽顯然非常艱難。但我們有另一種不同的方式來看待問題，需要嚐試進行詳細分析 ，並且以更好的方式完成一些事情，充滿希望地前進 ，因為這些球員中很多人在18個月之後可以變得更加出色 。”
英格蘭在2018年世界杯殺進四強 ，在本屆歐洲杯殺進決賽，而且這支英格蘭隊內的核心球員們年齡都不大 ，明年世界杯時正處於職業生涯的巔峰期 。穆裏尼奧稱 ：“別忘了 ，這支英格蘭隊已經進入了世界杯半決賽和歐洲杯決賽 。我相信人們需要以不同的眼光來看到這支英格蘭隊 ，我相信英格蘭會是（世界杯）一個強有力的競爭者 。”
而英格蘭主帥索斯蓋特也已經表態，自己會繼續留隊執教參加2022年世界杯 。“我想要帶球隊去卡塔爾 ，我認為我們在過去十年中取得了很大進步 。我們獲得了第四名（世界杯） 、第三名（歐國聯） 、第二名（歐洲杯） ，這和其它任何球隊都同樣出色 。”
