穆裏尼奧先是坐回教練席 ，但主裁判連續朝場邊示意要求他去看台 。穆裏尼奧隨後離開教練席走上看台 ，並且一邊走一邊高舉雙手鼓掌 ，似乎是在嘲諷裁判的這次判罰 。顯然 ，穆裏尼奧對於裁判的判罰並不滿意。
之後羅馬全隊的心態也受到了影響 ，曼奇尼和卡爾斯多普又相繼吃到紅牌被罰下 ，最終羅馬場上隻剩8名球員，並且又丟了兩個球 ，2-5輸掉了比賽 。本場比賽羅馬一共吃到6張紅牌 ，除了穆裏尼奧和3名球員被罰下之外 ，門將教練努諾-桑托斯和助教若昂-薩克拉門托也在抗議裁判時吃到紅牌 。
