摩洛哥隊用一場勝利驗證了自己的“黑馬”成色 。
他們在卡塔爾世界杯足球賽八分之一決賽點球決戰中零封對手 ，西班最後以3:0（120分鍾0:0）的牙被牙大演的牙进比分力克強大的西班牙隊 ，淘汰“奪冠熱門”的淘汰同時 ，為非洲球隊在八強中占據了一個席位。葡萄葡萄
西班牙隊主教練恩裏克在賽前發布會上曾表示 ，讓球員們練習至少1000個點球 ，但顯然“鬥牛士”們沒有完成好“家庭作業”。
西班牙隊第一個走上罰球點的薩拉維亞是120分鍾比賽結束前特意換上來為點球大戰做準備的，但他的射門砸在立柱上彈出 。
而西班牙隊此後出場的索萊爾和布斯克茨也沒能破門 ，他們的點球都被對方門將布努撲出 。
摩洛哥隊則除了第三個出場的貝農未得分以外 ，其他3名出場球員穩穩當當把球罰進 ，最終3:0將西班牙隊送回了家 。
賽前本場比賽被視作是“矛盾之爭” 。摩洛哥隊在小組賽中力壓克羅地亞和比利時隊以頭名出線，三場比賽隻丟一球 ，還是本方後衛的“烏龍”；而西班牙隊則在7:0戰勝哥斯達黎加隊的比賽中 ，向全世界展現了他們進攻火力 。
比賽開始後，西班牙隊果然控製著場上的局麵 。摩洛哥人更多的時候選擇11個人“龜縮”在本方半場，通過邊路配合尋找反擊機會 。
西班牙隊上半時最好的機會出現在第26分鍾 ，阿森西奧接隊友阿爾巴長傳 ，停球後角度過小 ，射門擊中邊網 。
上半時臨近結束 ，摩洛哥隊布法爾在左路連續創造了幾次機會 ，他在第42分鍾的傳中球找到隊友阿格德 ，後者的頭球稍稍高出。
易邊再戰 ，久攻不下的西班牙隊在第63分鍾換上高中鋒莫拉塔 ，75分鍾換上以突破見長的邊鋒威廉姆斯 ，但直到常規比賽時間哨響也沒能攻破對手防線。
