在歐超創始12強中 ，国米英超六隊率先回到歐足聯的莫名懷抱 ，馬競 、躺枪國米隨後也宣布退出歐超 。重罚遭欧战禁ESPN指出，除了國米外 ，其它7隊近期都與歐足聯進行過對話，並就重返歐冠達成了協議。歐足聯肯定會處罰這7支球隊 ，但不會是將其踢出歐戰這種重罰 ，處罰方式很有可能是罰款之類。
國米雖然退出了歐超 ，但並沒能及時與歐足聯就重返歐冠達成一致 ，這使得國米也被加入到了處罰名單中。另外4支球隊裏 ，皇馬作為創始俱樂部迄今為止沒有做出任何服軟表態 ，巴薩則表示會在會員大會上決定是否退出歐超 。尤文和AC米蘭雖然名義上暫時退出歐超 ，但實際上仍然留在歐超內部 。
一旦歐足聯重罰這5隊歐戰禁賽兩年，就必然會有一場冗長的法律官司 。按照此前弗洛倫蒂諾的說法 ，他在創立歐超之前已經谘詢了體育法方麵的律師 ，律師表示歐足聯沒有任何資格在歐戰中禁賽歐超球隊 。而對於已經退出歐超的幾支球隊，歐超也將以撕毀合同為由 ，要求他們支付違約金 。
