按計劃，沙特隊將於5月30日重新集中，隨後飛赴西班牙拉練 ，而與哥倫比亞隊的熱身賽也將安排在西班牙境內進行。如此安排的原因非常簡單。一方麵哥倫比亞隊由本國飛往歐洲的旅行條件便利 、旅途相對更短 。另一方麵 ，在西班牙進行熱身有益於哥倫比亞隊征調在歐洲效力的主力球員。
令人遺憾的是 ，哥倫比亞隊未能躋身卡塔爾世界杯決賽圈 ，為此哥倫比亞足協已解雇了球隊原主帥魯埃達 ，並啟動新帥遴選工作。相對而言，沙特隊在選擇對象方麵更具針對性 。比如 ，他們將在世界杯決賽圈中與南美勁旅阿根廷隊同組 ，那麽與哥倫比亞隊熱身的目的不言而喻 。
過招哥倫比亞隊後 ，沙特隊將轉往奧地利繼續拉練 ，期間在那裏還將參加2場熱身賽 。雷納德希望 ，此兩場熱身賽對手最好與世界杯小組賽同組的墨西哥隊 、波蘭隊技戰術打法特點相近 。
