北京時間11月11日，维拉據英超俱樂部維拉官方消息 ，官方傑拉德將出任球隊的杰拉新任主教練 。據天空體育報道 ，德出队新傑拉德與維拉簽約三年半 ，任球傑拉德的帅双老東家流浪者將得到300萬-400萬英鎊的違約金 。
現年41歲的约年傑拉德此前執教於蘇超格拉斯哥流浪者俱樂部 。2020/21賽季 ，维拉他帶領球隊贏得了蘇超冠軍 。官方球員時代的杰拉他出道於利物浦 ，1998年完成紅軍一線隊首秀，德出队新並一直效力至2015年期間贏得1次歐冠冠軍、任球1次歐聯杯冠軍 、帅双兩次歐洲超級杯冠軍 、约年兩次英格蘭足總杯冠軍和三次英格蘭聯賽杯冠軍 。维拉此後他前往美職聯加盟洛杉磯銀河 ，並於2017年退役 。
