克林斯曼曾在1996年作為隊長帶領德國隊在英格蘭舉辦的歐洲杯上最終拿到冠軍 。有意思的是 ，當時德國隊就是在半決賽經過點球大戰淘汰了英格蘭最終殺入決賽 。作為德國足壇名宿 ，克林斯曼曾在1994-1995賽季以及1998年 ，兩度效力過英超的托特納姆熱刺，在65場比賽中打進38球。而他作為教練 ，還率領德國隊在2006年世界杯上拿到了季軍。
克林斯曼預測英德大戰將難分伯仲 。而在最新的歐洲杯奪冠賠率方麵 ，英格蘭和德國兩隊也恰好同以1賠8的賠率，並列第三。這似乎也從另一角度印證了克林斯曼的預測 。
