近年來 ，学家行数析隨著科學技術的帮球飛速發展，越來越多的队进高科技手段被應用到了足球領域 ，比如 ，据分毀譽參半的闹般VAR和已被廣泛應用的大數據分析 。《每日郵報》披露 ，曼城大概率會奪取本賽季英超冠軍的聘请曼城俱樂部已經聘請了數名天體物理學家進入俱樂部的技術團隊 ，來幫助球隊進行數據分析，天体進而提升球隊的物理整體表現 。報道稱 ，学家行数析早在今年1月 ，曼城就已經聘請了前天體物理學家 、財政政策顧問勞利-肖作為俱樂部的“首席人工科學家” ，並且還有3名相似的科學家加入到了技術團隊。這家英國媒體向曼城俱樂部的工作人員進行了詢問 ，對方並未透露過多的細節 ，僅表示 ：“技術團隊的確聘請了有物理學背景的專家 ，他們將幫助城市足球集團旗下的全部球隊進行數據分析 ，以提升球隊表現 。”
《郵報》表示 ，曼城俱樂部所屬的城市足球集團正在重組技術團隊 。據悉 ，該技術團隊去年和Google進行了一項人工智能競賽 ，該項目的最終目的是開發出一種人工智能主教練 ，它能夠如同真人教練一樣在場邊指揮球隊 ，並處理比賽中的各種情況 。該團隊的一名主管表示，基於物理學在足球領域的應用 ，可以通過仿真實驗模擬對手的反應 、比賽的發展進程等 ，從而驗證新戰術的可行性和存在的各種問題 。
《郵報》指出，不僅僅是曼城 ，許多勇於創新並有著長遠規劃的俱樂部 ，尤其是豪門俱樂部都在嚐試著技術突破 。比如 ，曼城近兩年來的最大勁敵利物浦俱樂部的技術團隊中就有一名國際象棋冠軍和一名擅長代碼的天體物理學家。
