本屆U23亞洲杯預選賽受疫情衝擊 ，汗队会处無論是因误U亚预赛亚足賽事組織還是各個承辦地 ，都遇到了不少麻煩，退出不少先前曾申請主辦所在預選賽小組比賽的洲杯會員協會因受疫情影響以及本國或地區的相關防疫政策與規定 ，不得不宣布放棄承辦權，阿富亞足聯不得不重新物色主辦地 。汗队会处當然 ，因误U亚预赛亚足更有不少參賽隊因為疫情而宣布退出，退出包括中國U23國足在內 。洲杯
不過 ，原本應該參加在巴林進行的第三小組比賽的阿富汗隊賽前突然宣布退出，原因有些特殊 。本來 ，阿富汗國內經曆了一係列震蕩後，亞足聯和巴林組委會對阿富汗隊能否參賽就有疑問 ，但阿富汗足協明確表示 ，肯定將派隊參賽 ，並表示在10月25日開賽日前肯定將趕到巴林 。但是 ，就在10月25日開賽當天 ，作為東道主的巴林隊本應該出戰阿富汗隊 ，卻始終未見阿富汗隊的影子 。直至開賽之前數小時 ，阿富汗足協才致函巴林足協 ，稱 ：由於從喀布爾沒有直接飛往巴林的直達航班，球隊必須要中轉才能抵達麥納麥 ，但因為中轉未能趕上航班 ，球隊無法按時抵達巴林 ，所以球隊宣布退出本屆預選賽 。
這多少令巴林方麵哭笑不得 。於是 ，原本巴林隊與阿富汗隊在當天晚上進行的比賽也宣布取消 。而在當天進行的第一輪的一場比賽中 ，伊拉克隊以4比0取勝了馬爾代夫隊。根據重新編排的賽程 ，巴林隊將在明天(28日)出戰馬爾代夫隊；10月31日 ，巴林隊將與伊拉克隊進行對決 。
阿富汗隊是繼朝鮮隊 、文萊隊以及中國隊後 ，退出本屆U23亞洲杯預選賽的第四支球隊。不過 ，由於目前處於非常時期 ，亞足聯以“不可抗拒因素”來處理阿富汗隊退賽一事 ，因而也不會對阿富汗隊進行處罰 。
