FIFA今日淩晨在法國巴黎舉行2022年度頒獎典禮，去年率阿根廷奪隊史第3座世界杯冠軍的梅西毫無疑問贏得個人第7座最佳男子球員 。
梅西說 ：“對我來說 ，這是瘋狂的一年。在為之奮鬥如此久後 ，我可以實現我的夢想 。這成真了 ，是我生涯中最美好的事。這是每個球員的夢想 ，但很少有人能實現 ，所以我感謝上帝能夠讓我做到 。”
最佳球員由FIFA旗下211個會員國的成人國家隊主教練與隊長 、各國記者 、球迷線上共同票選 ，和純由專業媒體資深記者票選 、《法國足球》雜誌舉辦的金球獎並列為足壇最高2大個人榮譽 ，過去FIFA最佳球員、金球獎得主也分別被稱為世界 、歐洲足球先生，而一般認為後者專業聲譽更高 ，前者有比拚人氣成分 。
與梅西一起進入最終前3名候選者，還有在世界杯決賽被他擊敗、巴黎聖日耳曼隊友姆巴佩與金球獎得主本澤馬 。梅西拿到52分 ，2名法國前鋒分別是44分、34分 。最終8分之差無緣首座個人獎的姆巴佩是初次進入前3名 。
本澤馬憑借個人在歐洲冠軍聯賽 、西班牙甲級聯賽出色進球效率，幫助皇馬拿下雙冠 ，因而獲得金球獎，而梅西甚至不在去年8月公布候選名單中 ，因此2022年度金球獎與FIFA最佳球員出現根據俱樂部、國家隊成就差異來選人情況。
梅西還第16度入選年度最佳陣容 ，打破他與葡萄牙巨星C羅共享的最多次入選紀錄 。 C羅2021-22賽季後半在英格蘭超級聯賽出色表現 ，不僅不足以使他入選最佳陣容 ，還使他生涯首度被排除在FIFA最佳球員14人候選名單外 。
據了解 ，梅西也以阿根廷隊長身份參與投票 ，他投給從巴塞羅那到巴黎聖日耳曼時期的多年隊友 、巴西球星內馬爾 。此外 ，俄羅斯雖因身為俄羅斯－烏克蘭戰爭發動方，被禁止參加世界杯 ，但其隊長、主教練並未被禁止投票 。
