“全世界的人民都隻想安居樂業，想要有一座房子 ，睡得好 ，吃得好 ，然後再尋求一些樂趣 ，比如看電影 、跑步等 ，想要有一個自己的愛人 。他們想要的其實就這麽簡單 ，也沒有奢望更多。我們或許不清楚之前發生了什麽 ，但現在的敘利亞 ，還有其他許多地方 ，都有這樣的戰爭 ，最終都是強者殺死弱者 。”
在此前結束的一場土耳其甲級聯賽中 ，埃爾祖魯姆體育主場0-1不敵來訪的安卡拉古高。比賽開始前 ，埃爾祖魯姆體育球員身穿“對戰爭說不”的特製T恤 ，但球隊隊長艾庫特-德米爾卻拒絕身穿這樣的T恤，因此他成為了外界關注的焦點 。賽後，艾庫特-德米爾接受采訪時談到了具體原因 。
艾庫特-德米爾說：“在中東地區 ，每天都有成千上萬的人死去。他們無視那裏發生的迫害 ，沒有為此發聲 。當涉及到歐洲時，他們才會這樣做 。我不喜歡穿這樣的T恤 ，因為‘對戰爭說不’還沒有實現。如果我穿著它 ，我的良心會感到不適 。我會為世界上任何地方發生的戰爭感到難過 ，也能夠感受到那些無辜百姓的痛苦 。”
