俄羅斯此前在世界杯歐洲區預選賽中獲得H組第二名 ，俄罗將參加今年3月的斯逐世界杯附加賽 ，和波蘭、出世瑞典 、界杯捷克爭奪一個世界杯參賽資格 。法国但波蘭 、足协主席瑞典 、公开捷克三國足協此前都已經宣布 ，表态拒絕和俄羅斯進行比賽 ，俄罗無論比賽是斯逐否被安排在中立場地 。
其它一些國家足協也開始對俄羅斯進行批評 ，出世法國足協主席諾埃爾-勒格雷特在接受《巴黎人報》采訪時表示 ：“我還沒有和其它足協討論過此事 ，但我傾向於將俄羅斯排除在2022年世界杯之外，這是我立即產生的想法 。通常情況 ，我相信體育可以讓人們和解並緩解緊張局勢 。但目前的（俄烏衝突）情況超過了界線 ，體育界 ，尤其是足球界不能再保持中立。我當然不會反對將俄羅斯驅逐出世界杯 。”
而英格蘭足總 、威爾士足總也先後發布官方聲明，宣布“在可以預見的將來 ，不會與俄羅斯進行任何級別的國際賽事 。”俄羅斯和波蘭的世界杯附加賽原定在3月24日舉行，國際足聯需要盡快做出決定，是否將他們逐出2022年世界杯 。
