按照計劃，国足中國隊代表團一行近80人將於北京時間8月25日晚啟程離開位於上海的日进駐地酒店，隨後乘坐北京時間8月26日淩晨1點多起飛的行内选包機 ，飛赴卡塔爾多哈，部对參加卡塔爾世預賽亞洲區12強賽第1 、抗赛第2輪賽事。将决脚人而就在出發前幾個小時的定西25日下午 ，中國隊將在上海厚湃爾體育公園基地進行一場內部教學賽 。征多中國隊教練與管理團隊將根據目前隊內人員身體情況及熱身賽後可能出現的哈国意外傷病情況 ，來決定隨隊西征的国足國腳最終人選。
從8月18日開始 ，日进中國隊正式在上海展開新一期集訓 。行内选受國腳們此前剛剛經曆了空前密集的部对聯賽賽程及其它客觀因素影響 ，主教練李鐵有意識地降低了部分訓練日的抗赛訓練強度 ，還在8月20日下午特批國腳們自由活動 ，将决脚人與親友小聚 。
不過 ，鑒於12強賽備戰任務重大 ，球隊各堂室外訓練課的內容依然比較豐富。最近兩天 ，球隊的訓練內容也由身體恢複等喚醒訓練轉向技戰術內容的演練 。
算上近期相繼補充征調的鄭錚 、王上源以及尚在西班牙的武磊 ，共有33名球員入選本期國足集訓陣容。在22日與媒體代表座談期間 ，李鐵也強調，考慮到疫情期間赴境外訓練 、參賽麵臨的實際困難 ，中國隊將盡可能多地攜隊員西征 。這意味著 ，隻要身體條件允許，32名參加上海階段集訓的國腳都有望前往多哈備戰 、參賽。
不過，教練組當初補招2人很大程度上是因為目前隊中仍存傷病隱患 。部分隊員經曆“一個月內連戰9場或10場”的聯賽曆程後 ，出現了不同程度的傷勢 。如果個別球員傷勢嚴重到無法正常跟隊訓練 ，那麽球隊亦不排除將他們留在國內療傷的可能性 。
受疫情影響 ，中國隊在12強賽開賽前已無法落實國際熱身賽 。在這種情況下 ，為檢驗備戰效果 ，同時為12強賽磨陣，教練組最終決定通過安排內部對抗賽的方式解決這一難題 。按照計劃 ，全隊將於8月25日下午 ，也就是出征西亞前幾個小時在上海進行一場內部教學賽 。教練組也會根據熱身情況及可能出現的意外傷病情況 ，來對西征人員做最終的選擇 。
另據了解 ，國足此赴西亞征戰12強賽 ，將由中國足協主席陳戌源親自率團 。40強賽期間 ，曾同赴比賽前線的體育總局副局長 ，中國足協黨委書記杜兆才此次因故無法和全隊一起赴卡塔爾 。但他對於球隊始終比較關心 。他也於近日抵達上海 ，隨後為全隊送去鼓勵與祝福 。
截止到北京時間8月24日下午，中國足協仍在與亞足聯 、澳大利亞足總 、卡塔爾足協等各有關方麵積極溝通12強賽首輪競賽計劃的細節工作。澳、中比賽已經確定安排在多哈當地時間9月2日下午舉行，至於具體開球時間仍有待澳大利亞足總結合賽事電視轉播需要等因素最終敲定 。
